Hair, Hair, and More Hair

Weave, Bundles, Tracks, extensions…whatever your pet name is. We have ALL worn a piece of false hair some point in our lives (and if you haven’t you’ve considered it… we SEE you)! For some reason my fondness for hair has grown into an absolute LOVE AFFAIR! Savages, I cannot tell  you how many bags, boxes, and bundles of hair that I have accumulated over time. Some of them that have never been worn; and yet I’m still looking for deals to purchase more!

Being a stylist doesn’t make it any better. After whipping up a clients’ beautiful tresses, if the hair has what I like (Curl, bounce, dense & volume) I’m checking up on it for myself! This obsession is so potent that I could be doing my hair, and while doing it I’m thinking of my NEXT style! See me below rocking 24″ Inches of Brazilian Wavy! However, I don’t think that my obsession can exceed 24″ in length of hair!

Why I love Weave

For me wearing weave is like an accessory. I don’t need it but it adds to EVERYTHING. Weave is like my “icing on the cake,” my “marble on counter tops!”  For me, wearing extensions is a luxury.  It’s not always cost efficient (when done right), and to maintain a good weave it takes time and funds! So if your fortunate to afford them, call yourself BLESSED! & As long as your hair looks good, and you maintain good care of your natural hair….I don’t see the issue! Do you?

My most recent Love affair has been with Arjuni Raw Cambodian Hair (Click Here )! I have been researching and studying this hair for over a YEAR now, and I finally gave in.  Meanwhile, my other brand new bundles are resting in my closet….UNTOUCHED (shameful, I know)! I promised myself that upon arrival of my Arjuni hair I wouldn’t purchase anymore Virgin Bundles for a year…. We’ll see how that goes!

Distance

This might be the most common reasoning for many relationship failures post graduation. What was once the least of your worries, becomes the biggest obstacle. You went from seeing this person daily, to Skype and Facetime becoming the only way to see the face of someone that means so much to you. Being away from someone special for so long leads to doubt and suspicions of infidelity.

It doesn’t have to be like this though. Distance can be a good thing. While it is a serious test, if passed, it can strengthen a relationship. It also leads to the opportunity to do new things. What used to be mundane dates, now are exclusive cherished moments; and not to mention that planned vacations and “getaways” can be taken to catch up and spend time with your significant other.

Conflicting Life Paths & Goals

Another thing that can destroy a relationship after graduation is that both parties are on two diverging roads. While your goals and future plans were probably already discussed before, it may not have sunk in until your post-grad reality hit. Two people going on to live two hectic, time consuming lives might not be the best thing . Sometimes it’s not the distance, but it is one’s aspirations , goals, future plans that drive a wedge in the realatonship.

A way to make sure this doesn’t happen is communication. It sounds so simple but it is truly the best solution to avoid heartbreak.  Plan to have that “after graduation talk” to reiterate your  goals. It can’t hurt to make sure that you and your partner are on the same page. I know that everything cannot be mapped out, but a basic layout of what is desired from both parties can prevent a complicated breakup.

Conclusion

Relish in your accomplishments!  Major things are happening and your future is starting to shape up, embrace the post-grad life . A relationship does not have to be a victim of this hectic and most times unsure phase, it can benefit.

Her dress is super chic, although it isn’t my preference; and her makeup falls pretty flat with me aswell. The shoes, however, MAKE this outfit! The fluorescent Jimmy Choos instantly take the ensemble from a 6 to a 9 with their addition!

Every time you think of cleaning numbers out of your phone  a still small voice reminds you  that you never know whom you might need to talk to later. Let’s FACE  it, some of the space in your phone is being wasted and Mr. Savage is here to help with 3 tips that could free up a gang of space on your phone and possibly clean our the closet of your life.

1. No More “Seasonal” Boo

This is the category for all those people whose main purpose in your phone was for the colder months. Yes, those colder months I am referring to are known as…. Cuffing Season. If you are the type that explores your options when it warms up,  then this fits you perfectly. If there is no future evident, then why waste energy,space, and time? right. slide and delete . There’s nothing further here… moving on

2. Zero Progression

This is for the person that you have had in your phone for a fair amount of time with the intentions of experiencing a “budding” relationship of some sort. To your dismay everything is stagnant. With as much time and effort put in it is apparent that the progress you are seeking is not going to happen. Unless this person is someone that you absolutely CANNOT lose, delete him or her out of the phone. slide and delete. NEXT……

3. No Conversation

What’s the point of them having a spot in your phone if  no contact is made for 3 months at a time. If you haven’t called, texted, tweeted, facebooked, emailed, liked a photo on instagram… you all get the picture, there really is no need for them to be in your phone book. (for networking purposes ONLY if this person has some value it’s okay to keep them; Oh and btw theses are people who are actually DOING something with their business endeavors)

Being a hoarder is not ok; I mean have you seen the show on TLC?! The majority of us keep our house, room, desk, bathroom, and all of our daily spaces’ clean, strong emphasis on MOST. We continue to keep our place of residence up, but fail to tend to our most precious tools in the 21st century, our tech items. So of course here’s a quick guide to cleaning and organizing your music!

Nine times out of ten our hard drive is clogged up with the following items…..pictures, movies, or music. If your a music lover than the bulk of your space is taken up by the countless mp3 files sitting on your harddrive.

Now unless you willingly want Tiffany Evans’s “Promise Ring” popping up on your iTunes shuffle I suggest you take the following steps to tidy up your music library. Yes, this happened to me; Lord bless my 15-year-old soul.

What You’ll Need to

* External Harddrive
* Time (Yes T-I-M-E)

PURGE AND STORE

Let’s admit it, we all have a little hoarder gene in us. Maybe you’re the one to keep that piece of clothing that you just can’t let go. Or maybe your like me, music from back in the gap that just can not be removed from your computer. First, Take a nice stroll through your mp3 files and put everything you have not listened to in at least 2 or more years in a new folder. I’m naming mine “Thanks For The Memories.” Now don’t go pressing the “Delete” button just yet, nobody ever said we had to depart from these lovely tunes.

Second, take the rest of your mp3 files and create folders based on Artist names. Take the time to do this for every artist in your catolog even if you only have one song from them.

Last, transfer all of these newly created folder(s) onto your new External Harddrive. (TIP: Your external harddrive might prompt you to back up your entire computer, but I would recommend NOT taking that route. These external harddrives will run their own set program and rearrange all of your files into compressed folders making it hard to reach everything.) After all of the folders have transferred safely, unplug your external harddrive.

Now here comes the hard part……in the words of comedian, Billy Sorrells, “DELETE, DELETE, DELETE.” Time to get rid of those old, haven’t been played in three years song, or our “Thanks For the Memories” folder.

CLASSIFY

Now your computer is feeling like it has just had a mini gastric bypass. It is not only appreciative, but you might see a faster response time on its basic functions since you’ve cleared up some space.

One of my personal pet peeves is misplaced songs! It just absolutely kills my vibe when I pick an album to listen and with just my luck, it skips straight from track 2 to track 4. And of course track 3 is my favorite track on the album.

I’m sure the majority of us are using the auntie of media players, iTunes, to play our music and add it on to our devices (i.e. phone or mp3 payer) so lets go through a key action to get everything looking tidy on that space.

Make sure every song is labeled correctly with the correct album title and correct artist. If a song has guest features you MUST make sure those guests names are not in the Artist Name field. If it is, iTunes will not categorize the song with the rest of the main artists’ catalog.

This is a quick fix that we can apply to our entire library that’ll make it easy to navigate the search tool.

PLAYLIST CREATION

I’m not going to lie, I’m a bit of a looser so this is one of my favorite pastimes. Having a playlist for each and every type of vibe is just lovely! Nobody, I mean not NAH one is touching my cleaning up playlist.

Whatever your preference in music may be, it is a good idea to group songs somewhat of the same genre and with the same base sound. Of course you have to throw one random song in the mix at times. For example, my cleaning up playlist I referred to earlier features mainly R&B chicks that I painfully blast my personal vocal skills along with, but then BAM! — out of nowhere, Z-Ro’s Mo City Don comes on and I just proceed to getting my life.

Various times where having a playlist is good include cleaning up, working out, chilling, getting ready for a night out on the time. I’m telling you, taking the time to cultivate these playlist with allow everything to go smoother and boost the overall mood during all of the said activities.

Stop and Smell the Roses

People have been saying this quote since I can remember. I know everyone has their own interpretation of metaphorical quotes like this one and this is mine.

I recall as a child not knowing exactly what the saying meant, just taking it at face value . I imagined in my head a literal interpretation that depicted me  letting the soft petals of a rose tickle my nose and a sweet aroma overloading my senses. In adolescence it finally clicked that it was a metaphor for simply enjoying life. However, it wasn’t until about 3 days ago that I truly grasped the meaning and put it into use.

Since February most things in my life have been moving at the maximum velocity possible. For some odd reason I took this to mean that since my career was taking off that every other aspect of my life should too. I was about to jump into the deep end of the pool without any  hesitation. I didn’t really realize it, but I seriously began tunneling through, expecting everything to come fast. I was making decisions with no rhyme or reason and acting on impulse (which for me, never renders a quality result). I was having trouble making sense out of, ” if there are 24 hours in a day, why am I not getting things that I WANT to be done, done”.

Stuck in this tunnel vision state of trying to force things to happen the way I wanted them to happen lead to them NOT HAPPENING. I got frustrated and shot a text to my homegirl. Her response was many words but to summarize , she simply told me to stop; and smell the roses. I dusted it off as a cliché tatic to get me to calm down, but I returned to the thought a couple of days later. I had my “a-ha” moment when I asked myself these questions:

• a. What and where exactly am I rushing too?
• b. Who am I competing with and comparing myself to?
• c. Why, just For What?

When I couldn’t answer any of those questions with an answer that made any logical sense, I dropped my head and cried. While I was focusing on trying to speed up and catch up with this ridiculous ”life” schedule I concocted in highschool, the things that I truly love and am overly passionate about  had become a complete blur.  The solution was simple … Ashley , stop and smell the roses. Those roses being in the garden of everything that I have a burning desire for. Stop and smell the roses  became defined as:  to seize every moment as an opportunity, To focus on what makes God happy, and mastering patience as a process.

Stop and smell the roses. Be patient and enjoy life , instead of barreling through thinking that it’s some sort of marathon. And to be patient is not merely just to wait; but it is a conscious decision to prepare with faith, knowing that whatever it is will come into fruition. And without getting angry or upset about it.

So today. Stop and smell your roses. Wether that be engaging in something that correlates with your dreams. Doing a hobby that you love, but haven’t done in a while. WHATEVER it is, do it today.

We gave our live audience a little bit of everything from; no really we did. Que gave some quick tips on getting your bodies right to be “summer time fine” and encouraged us to be ALL YEAR fine. The majority of our broadcast focused on the culture aspect of SY. Our culture curator, Krystal, moderated the discussion hitting points about music, social media, reality tv, and everything in-between! Good bars, a sample from the great Mint Condition, and reference’s to my hometown, Houston? What more could I ask for? Stalley silently dropped off this banger last week. I was sleeping. The joint will definitely be in rotation throughout the upcoming weeks. Is is me or is Stalley LARGELY overlooked, disregarding the fact that he is a part of the MMG clique? It has been over 6 years since Justin Timberlake blessed the music world with new material. It is safe to say that everybody was anxious for his new project when he released a teaser video in late January, letting the world know that he was releasing a new album:  The 20/20 Experience. Needless to say, it is definitely something to experience and in my eyes it seems as though Justin Timberlake has not lost a step.

The album starts off with the upbeat Pusher Love Girl where Justin compares his woman to his drug and ends with the deep love song Blue Ocean Floor. The album is full of hits including both singles Suit and Tie and Mirrors.

My Top 3 Songs from The 20/20 Experience :

1. Strawberry Bubblegum: A dedication to the woman in his life with a reminiscent story of when he first met the woman. The song describes how she is one of a kind and nothing he has ever met before. The second half of the song has a jazzy-upbeat breakdown where a mellow jazz lounge feel is given.

2. Spaceship Coupe: A song about out-of-space, otherworldly lovemaking. Where Justin sings, “Hop into my spaceship coupe. There’s only room for two; me and you. And with the top down we’ll cruise around, land, and make love on the moon.” This may be the best song on the album.

3. That Girl: A song that gives a live 60′s performance feel. The prominent horns throughout the production, and the harmonies in the background all combine to create this nostalgic ambiance. In this song, Justin professes how much he loves his girl even though by the sound of the lyrics they shouldn’t be together.

Conclusion: This is definitely what R&B needed at this point, with what seems to be a slow time for quality records. This is perfect timing for JT also. With the weather warming up, this record is definitely one that you play while riding around with your top (or windows) down. It is a great album and more so  a great experience. I suggest hitting up your local Music store for a hard copy and downloading it from iTunes. Until next time….

If a guy starts to fall back on pursuing (i.e.. less frequent contact or initiation) a girl should it be taken as a sign of him losing interest?

Yes. He might give have reasoning, i.e. that he has been busy or that things have come up; but as the saying goes, “You make time for things that are important to you.” That is just a way that many men let women off without being blunt and insensitive by outright saying that he has lost interest.

How would you show a girl that you’re just not that into her?

In the event that just explaining to her  that I’m not interested is ineffective  ( yes some women don’t believe the words that come out of our mouths), the only way is to cut-off communication with her. Honestly, that’s the only way to show that you are not into her without sending any mixed signals.

If you were not into a female, how would you tell her? Or would you just tell her [outright] ?

Like aforementioned. This is a challenging issue. It’s a balance of “how do I tell the truth” and “how do I protect the person’s feeling”. The way I would handle this situation is by bringing up the issue of how she sees our relationship and what she sees stemming from it. From there, I can just let her know how I feel in an easier, less awkward manner.

If you were to ask anyone about “so and so” and they bring up some skeleton in her closet, does/should that affect a man’s interest?

There are only two ways it will have a serious impact on a man’s interest. The first is if she does not openly disclose said skeletons; because then it seems that she has something to hide. The other is if her past actions are so outrageous that the stories will completely alter the view of the woman. Other than that, we all have a past so in my opinion it should not really distort a man’s interest.

Why is it hard for males to see a women’s point of view when it comes to making decisions?

The reason it is so hard to see a woman’s point of view is because males and females think about situations differently. And since they think about situations differently they will rationalize outcomes differently as-well. Both sexes communicate in different ways and what males hear in a discussion might not be close to what the female intends to say. The only way to combat this misunderstanding is trying to understand where the communication barriers are in the relationship and how to overcome them.

No shade, but is it a coincidence hat this visual dropped just one day after Justin Timberlake’s new album was released? Seeing that the two are sort-of in the same lane I think I may spot a little friendly competition. Perfect timing or bad timing, the song is definitely a jam.

Added to another list, we revisit the classic bun and knot. There’s not too much convincing that needs to be done when it comes to a goto style for a bad hair day. Switch it up by playing with the buns locations ( high, low, to the side) or get textural with braids and knots.

Wigs

Woah. yes, I’ve added wigs to this list. Why? Because these are my goto styling option when having a bad hair day. I’ve made my own wigs and recently haven gotten into purchasing ready made wigs. Wigs have come a VERY long way. There are so many styling options to choose from that will make people believe you are wearing your natural hair or a sew in even! RPGshow, Luxe Beauty Supply, and Your Local BSS ( beauty supply store) have a great selection. Check out Fabulasityisme’s youtube channel for demonstrations on how to blend lace fronts naturally.

Fedoras

Another classic hat for a clean silhouette. Fedoras dress up any outfit and easily add a dash of style to an otherwise plain canvas. Throw on some jeans or some slacks and you’ve got an instantly classic look. Forever21 has a couple that are reasonable priced , aswell as Urban Outfitters.

Wide Brimmed Hats

Have the opportunity to add a wide brimmed hat, do it! I always look to Janelle Monae or Rachel Zoe when wide brimmed hats are mentioned. They are the queens of this style! I love how Janelle adds a dash of flare by doing something with the bang in front of her hat’s brim! Pair this hat with your office looks or your clean & cut friday night outfits. Asos has a couple of these on hand and checkout this Polyvore search for a wider selection.

Berets/Beenies

Rounding out our list of Bad Hair Day Styling options are Beenies and Berets. I love adding either with my casual outfits. They are a great way to accessorize while hiding your uncooperative hair. Head to Karmaloop for a wide selection of these.

Now, I’m sure you’ve tried all types of abdomen exercises and sit ups to rid of the belly, but SY has done some recent investigation to find the BEST WORKOUT to get the job done with the quickest results….(i.e. Spring Break is around the corner)!  After careful surveying and consideration we’ve happened upon the most effective Pre Spring Break Exercise; It’s called “The Clamp”. This exercise uses all accessory muscles, while not only shrinking your waist but building muscle strength, and confidence as well!

The Clamp (Pre Spring Break Exercise)

Targets back, abs, obliques, inner thighs, and outer thighs too!

• Lie face up on floor with arms and legs extended upward; lift head, neck, and shoulders off floor.
• Simultaneously lower arms out to sides and open legs 45 degrees, keeping shoulders and chest lifted throughout.
• Return to start, squeezing palms together and legs together.
• Do 10 to 12 reps.

5 TIPS TO Quick HEALTHY WEIGHT LOSS QUICKLY!

1. Losing weight consists of making healthier food choices, exercising and calculations! You must eat fewer calories than you’re burning each day.
2. Now, If you’re serious about losing weight, You MUST stop drinking soda. Also, eliminate fast food and reduce alcohol intake, which I know may be hard for many college spring breakers!
3. Decrease your total calorie diet, and don’t forget that the calories you intake are a big deal.
4. EAT HEALTHIER…. How cliche is that right? What I mean is instead of eating junk food (cookies, cake, white breads and rice) replace those cravings with fruit, water, and smaller proportioned meals throughout the day!
5. Remember…Change won’t occur over NIGHT! In addition to dieting, practice a regular work out regimen (2-3 times a week)! And don’t abandon this lifestyle after spring break, continue it for the rest of the year….the results will surprise you!

With beaux Casper in tow, Jlo stepped out to hit up the Topshop/Topman LA Opening Party in a shiny number, accented by black colored sleeves & waist panels, along with orange collar and back embellishments. She completed the look with black footed tights, a black clutch, and our shoes of the hour.  HOT!

Jennifer Lopez’s Brian Atwood Colorblock Leopard Print T-Strap Sandals feature calf hair that has been dyed to simulate leopard print on the curvy structured straps. Its leather piping is a bright cyan and the shoe has an adjustable securing ankle strap. The heel is a little over 6 inches and its platform is about 2 inches high, both being colored the same orange found in her dress. These sandals seemed to have gone on sale jumping from a price tag of  1,108$ to a steal at 488$! So of course they’re sold out.. but  I’ll keep street dreaming that these will be in my closest soon.

Last week she stopped by The Late Show with David Letterman to perform one of my personal favorites off the 7 track EP, “Don’t Let Me Down.” (Download it here)

She’s on queue to perform at the Essence Music Festival this summer along with her sister Beyonce. ALL IN THE FAMILY NAH!

I, for one, am extremely happy to see this fabulous return by Solange. Her songwriting is always impeccable and not to mention she is always slaying from a style perspective.
